Emma had a great field day today coming in 1st in the 40 meter dash and taking 4th in the 400 meter race. She also took 3rd in the soccer punt. She was pretty excited by her wins (especially since this is the first year they gave our ribbons according to placement). Her team won a few of their tug-of-war battles too. The wind was a bit crazy today but the kids didn't seem to mind too much!

Happy 8th Birthday Emma!

I was at the park on Tuesday and saw a young mom who had a baby along with about a 2 year old. She was struggling to push a stroller while carrying her baby in a sling and trying to catch up with her little one who had run on ahead of her. I looked around to find my girls happily and independently playing on the playground and wanted to tell this sweet woman that it gets easier. If you would have told me that 8 years ago, I would have thought you completely crazy! It's hard to think back 8 years ago when Emma was born. She was a beautiful baby who birthed politely (yes, it's possible!) but she had lungs that wouldn't quit! Emma had colic, and not just night colic or day colic, I'm talking all day, all night, nobody's sleeping in this house ever colic. I look back and wonder how I made it through, how Luke and I stayed married, why I had more...two more! (One reason we had more was because people told me that you'll only ever have one with colic...they were wrong =)
Now, I look at my sweet Emma and while her lung capacity is still incredible (the girl loves to talk!) I am in awe of the girl she is becoming! She loves to read, to write, to teach. She walks the edge of the fence like it's a high wire, creates elaborate obstacle courses in the back yard, and tries to use her sled like a snowboard. What amazes me most is that she loves me and tells me I am the best mom in the world for her! Pretty crazy to think that 8 years ago, I wasn't sure I was ready for this little girl to be in my life...now, I don't want to miss a moment! I love you Emma and you're the best 8 year old in the world for me!!!
